There will be many who read with interest reports in the local press of the VC’s recent announcement that he is to leave the university at the end of this academic year.
Some however will perhaps find the rhetoric contained within that report somewhat less than representative of their own views on his tenure.
Claims that the VC leaves the University in a better place than when he arrived are at best debatable.
The institution is staring financial collapse in the face, low morale is viewed nostalgically by staff as ‘the good old days’, growth has been jettisoned as an aspiration, student satisfaction has been decimated, and recruitment relies heavily upon foundation year applicants to bolster poor recruitment to more traditional 3yr degree programmes.
Success, what success?
